An Impatient High School Student Displays Several Alcohol-Related Issues, Gets Removed From School, And Has To See The School Therapist

Stephen was a sixteen year old high school junior who was exhibiting several alcohol-related problems at school. For that reason, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school counselor, before he would be permitted to come back to class.

Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to clarify his school expulsion to his parents. His parents were "fairly traditional" and told Stephen that getting discharged from school was not a viable educational option. They explained to Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would most probably be like a lead weight around his ankles that might hurt his educational attainment for the rest of his adult life. In addition, Stephen's Mother and Father were quite disappointed that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his pals in the second.

It was clear that his Mom and Dad were out-and-out in full agreement with Stephen's principal and told Stephen that he needs to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist. After his dialogue with his parents, Stephen finally agreed to see Miss Pender the next school day. So Stephen phoned the school and made an appointment to see Miss Pender the next day during lunch.

When Stephen went to see Miss Pender, she without pause went over all of the alcohol-related issues Stephen had experienced and asked him if he understood why his recent alcohol-related actions gave the school administrators room for alarm.

Quite truthfully, Stephen wondered why the principal told him he had to see a school therapist. As he expressed to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional counselor about his drinking circumstances? Due to the fact that almost all of his pals drink about as much as he does, essentially, drinking shouldn't be such a big deal. Stated differently, if nearly everybody is drinking, why is this such a major issue?

In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to short-circuit his ability to behave like an accountable young man. As stated by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your pals drink beer, wine, wine coolers, or hard liquor does not mean that it is the correct behavior for you."

Luckily, Miss Pender was well prepared for her meeting with Stephen. She showed him reports and research studies she had highlighted that listed different drinking facts and statistics that applied to most people in general. Then she showed Stephen a lot of figures and reports that applied especially to teenagers.

After Miss Pender articulated the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse statistics and facts, it was apparent that what Miss Pender revealed to Stephen was a wake up call for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only took the time to go over the long term and the short term consequences of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, but she also took the time to support what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcoholism facts and statistics that related to everyone, and particularly to teenagers.

As a matter of fact, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen immediately understood why he should not be engaging in abusive and hazardous drinking with or without his buddies anymore. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the material she went over and then accepted her reinstatement into class.
